Chapter 151 of the TCPRC provides parties with access to a [special] judge who can adjust the schedule of the court to meet their needs. The parties can agree to hold the trial wherever it is most convenient.

 

Familiar trial procedures are still in place - the entire process governed by TRCP and TRE.   Chapter 151 offers confidentiality of the record.  The court reporter is hired by the parties.   Confidentiality could be significant in cases involving sensitive matters - division of large marital property estates, sexual abuse of a minor, trade secrets, etc.

Scheduling a Chapter 151 trial provides for minimized lawyer time, travel expense, and time off for parties and witnesses is reduced.
